Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G: A High-End Flagship With Impressive Specs and a Few Drawbacks It was obvious when Xiaomi unveiled the 12 Pro 5G that the company wanted to play in the true flagship space. T
his device pairs a stylish design with a top-notch display, fast-charging and powerful cameras at a price that’s not quite as eye-poppingly high as super-premium rivals like Samsung’s Galaxy S or Apple’s iPhone Pro series.
But like any smartphone, the 12 Pro 5G has a package of strengths and compromises.
Design and Display
The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G takes your breath away the moment you see it with its sleek design. The frosted glass back combined with a metal frame make the phone feel classy in the hand.
It’s a real pocketful, measuring in at 8.2 mm thick and approximately 205 grams, but not distractingly so.
—6.73-inch WQHD+AMOLED display is one of its most eye-catching aspects. With a 3200 x 1440 pixel resolution, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and
a peak brightness of up to 1500 nits, it’s a dream to watch videos, game or just scroll around. Colours pop, contrast is deep, and the screen is responsive to adaptation for different work.
One thing it’s lacking, however, is an official IP rating. The phone seems like a solidly built one, however there is no IP resistance for water and dust which is a negative for the majority of the users.
Performance and Software
The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G gets the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 under the hood. The phone flies through everyday tasks, gaming and multitasking, thanks to up to 12 GB of RAM and UFS 3.1 storage.
Apps open quickly, animations are fluid, and most games are playable on high settings. That being said, as is the case with a lot of devices powered by this silicon,
at times the phone begins to warm up when gaming extensively or performing other demanding tasks. You may also hit some thermal throttling if the tool can’t keep itself cool enough.

As expected, the company has announced the availability of MIUI 13 beta for 11 eligible device models. But oth er users may not like the preloaded apps and occasional system ads.
Camera System
The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes with a 50-megapixel triple camera setup of Sony IMX707 main sensor and ultra-wide lens and a 2x telephoto lens.
In fine lighting, the camera is a performer. Photos are detailed, colours are underplayed, with a natural look and nice dynamic range, thanks in part to fine noise control.
The Portrait mode has nice background blurriness and does edge detection well.
There’s also a night mode here which does well, not always losing too much detail and control over noise like some rivals – the Pixel series, or iPhone – but can still be left behind in challenging conditions.
The ultra-wide lens doesn’t have autofocus so it’s slightly less versatile. The 2x telephoto lens is a nice step up for portraits, though folks who want more telephoto reach might feel confined.
On the video side, the phone captures 4K at 60 frames per second with solid stabilization and detail. The front facing camera is 32 MP and takes sharp selfies, but is limited to 1080p video recording.
Battery and Charging
The 12 Pro 5G carries a 4600 mAh battery from Xiaomi. It’s enough to last a full day under moderate use, but hard-core users might need to top up via the charger by the time evening rolls around .
The standout feature is charging tech: A 120W wired connection can go from empty to full in about 20 minutes. There’s 50W wireless charging, too, which trounces many rivals’ wired options.
Super-fast charging, of course, gives rise to concerns about the health of the battery over time, though Xiaomi says its phone has built-in precautions.

Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G: Final Thoughts
The Xiaomi 12 Pro 5G comes with a lot of features you’d expect in a flagship phone, without the über high price tag of some competitors.
Its stand-out display, quartet of good cameras and speedy charging also make it a reliable alternative for premium specs on a budget.
But if battery life, water resistance or sustained gaming performance are key concerns, it’s worth considering the competition closely.
